Cincinnati Black Music Walk of Fame Honors New Inductees
The Cincinnati Black Music Walk of Fame celebrated its first anniversary by inducting four new members. See the inductees and their discography below.
Zapp & Roger—the electro-funk group out of Dayton, Ohio helped usher in the digital age of R&B. Frontman Roger Troutman challenged vocal traditions with his use of the talk box.
Shirley Murdock—the Toledo, Ohio native is a protégée of Roger Troutman, singing on and co-writing the above-listed “Computer Love.” As a solo artist, she gave us love-sick ballads and later transitioned to gospel/inspirational music.
Randy Crawford—Cincinnati was one of the first cities to support her talent before she reached international acclaim. She has performed with music greats from Quincy Jones to Cannonball Adderly to George Benson and is best known as the lead vocalist on the Crusaders’ classic “Street Life.”
Donald Lawrence—he garnered name recognition as one of greatest gospel composers of his generation, but he also is a legend in R&B. He served as the musical director to Stephanie Mills and vocal coach to En Vogue.
